SAN DIEGO

Are you ready? This is going to be a LONG post with lots of photos, so I'll try to keep the words brief. :) Once we left the ship we flew straight to San Diego, CA for Remko's senior management course. We arrived on Tuesday night and the meetings didn't start until Friday morning, so we had a little time to do some sightseeing. The first day we took the red commuter "trolley" to all of its stops to check out where we wanted to go the next day. We walked around the gaslight district at lunchtime.

The next day we took the tourist trolley beginning in Old Town and stopping at Coronado Island and Balboa Park. The first two photos are of the Hotel Del Coronado on the island, which is one of the largest wood structures still in working condition. It has over 700 rooms.

Balboa Park is the second largest park in the US, after Central Park. Most of the buildings are from the 1915 Panama America Festival to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal.

During Remko's conference, a friend from California came to visit me, so we spent the three days together shopping and seeing some of the sights. We went on a tour with three other guests at the conference to La Jolla and Sea Port Village.

We all had lunch in Sea Port Village, but instead of touring the little shops afterward, Summer and I went across the street to the bar where a couple scenes from Top Gun were filmed. Here are those photos.

Saturday night the conference had dinner at Sea World and I could join Remko at the festivities. During the cocktail hour, 110, the penguin, was available for photos. After dinner we had a private show with Shamu.

Our last day, Summer and I spent more time and money touring and shopping in Old Town, the site of the first town of San Diego circa 1820.

Next stop: Switzerland!
