Chestnut Festival

On Sunday afternoon we walked to Greppen, a nearby town on the same lake, where they were having a chestnut festival. There was all kinds of food and even this self-serve juice bar.

There were booths of food and drink made of chestnuts as well as other handcrafts, but mostly what you saw were people. The place was packed!

Before we left we had to get a small package of roasted chestnuts, called marroni. It was THEIR festival after all. :) We stood second in line and it became obvious that we were waiting for the nuts to roast. After five minutes we questioned whether we needed anything, ten minutes left us with the dilemma deciding if it was worth it, since we had invested so much time already waiting. Just as we got our 100 gram package, we heard cow bells in the distance coming closer. Soon seven farmers appeared carrying huge cow bells and making a lot of noise. It was great!! There was definitely a reason we had to wait! Here they are, not sure what's in the two farmers' mouths....
