Day 1

Our trip started out early, I woke up at 4am and we were on the road by 5:30 to be exact. We wanted to miss rush hour in the bigger cities we would be passing in Switzerland, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands and still get there after a 10 hour drive in time to see something in the afternoon. Did you know in Europe cruise control is not standard? Yeah for Remko and his driving foot!! We arrived in Holland just before 4.

Wooden shoes and tulips--yeah! We walked around Kinderdijk, a grouping of 18 windmills dating from the 1700s.

One of them was turned into a display and we walked through the low ceilings and cramped bedrooms, coming across these wooden shoes turned into boots. Very cool.

What I thought was the most interesting was that this wasn't a national park or anything, just a grouping of windmills. In fact, most of the windmills are privately owned and used as houses, like this one.

Just two more windmill photos to share. What a cool place!
